Order Amendments

Customers can change an order after they’ve placed it, and every change is a new chance to sell them more.

Impact

Changing an order after checkout is now part of the platform, not a custom build. Projects launch sooner and cost less to run, and retailers sell more per order because shoppers can add to orders they’ve already placed.

Overview

Once an order was placed, it was usually fixed. A buyer who forgot an item had to place a second order, and a retailer lost the chance to sell more to someone who was already buying.

In B2B e-commerce the cost is higher. Order changes traditionally go through sales support by phone or email, and someone on the internal team re-enters each one by hand. Order Amendments moves these post-purchase changes from internal teams to the buyers themselves.

Industry benchmarks: manual order changes

~15 minaverage per manual order edit or re-order request
Up to 4%error rate from manual entry of phone and email orders
60–80%less manual data entry once buyers make changes themselves

I launched Order Amendments as a Spryker capability, so customers can modify existing orders after purchase. It also creates a new place to upsell: after the purchase, when the customer comes back to the order.

What shipped

  • Editing placed orders: customers open an order from their account and change it after purchase.
  • Post-purchase upselling: every amendment is an opportunity to add more to the order.

Validation

I proved the capability in production with a major European grocery retailer, our pilot customer. Post-purchase order changes contributed to a higher average order value.

Documentation

I wrote detailed documentation for the capability. It helps internal teams support and implement it, and helps customers understand what it does before they adopt it.

Launch

Together with the marketing team, I developed the marketing materials for the release, explaining the main benefits and features. They were part of a successful product launch, and the release video above is one of them.

Impact

Up to 200 days of development and testing saved on every project that would otherwise have built a comparable solution.

  • Higher average order value: customers add to orders they’ve already placed.
  • Faster time to market: projects skip building and testing their own order-editing logic.
  • Lower total cost of ownership: there’s no custom code to maintain and upgrade in each project.
  • Less manual work in B2B sales support: buyers change their own orders instead of phoning or emailing sales, so there are fewer edits to re-enter by hand and fewer entry errors.
