Overview
A marketplace makes money by taking a commission on every order its vendors sell, then paying each vendor the rest. Spryker customers building marketplaces needed both parts: working out the commission and settling payments across many vendors.
Until then each project built this on its own. I launched Marketplace Commissions as a core Spryker capability for future marketplace customers, and took it from release to its first live customer.
What shipped
- Commission calculation: operators define commission rules and the platform applies them to marketplace orders.
- Multi-vendor payment and settlement: support for paying out and settling with many vendors from a single marketplace.

First customer
I led the onboarding of a European marketplace as the early adopter. That made the capability’s first real use a live marketplace rather than a demo, and gave the team direct feedback from an operator running it.
Documentation
I wrote detailed documentation for the capability. It helps internal teams support and implement it, and helps customers understand what it does before they commit to it.

Together with the marketing team, I developed the marketing materials for the release, explaining the main benefits and features. They were part of a successful product launch, and the release video above is one of them.
I also presented the capability to the Spryker community at the Spryker Digital User Group in November 2024. The recording is above.
Impact
Up to 30 days of development and testing saved on every marketplace project that would otherwise have built a comparable solution.
Commission handling is now part of the platform instead of a per-project build, which means:
- Faster time to market: new marketplaces skip building and testing their own commission and settlement logic.
- Lower total cost of ownership: there’s no custom code to maintain and upgrade in each project.
